The mark of a quality "Club" Went with my mate chris when he got his pay from trades on thursday. I was only there for five mins while he got sorted out, but I'm sure the place wasn't as fucking disgusting when I left last year. The paint is peeling off the walls and has nicotine stains on the walls. The sound system was horribly distorted (probably because of resident DJ Robbie "Look No Headphones" Young) And what the fuck was that smell that hits you as you walk in? It smelt like a combination of fermented beer and dog shit. It disgusts me that they still manage to fill said venue every friday and saturday, and that fecking galaxy even come once a month (not saying charv fm is good, but to pull a radio station you have to have some clout somewhere). This place has had Tom Wainwright, Tim Lennox, Graeme Parke, Farley Jackmaster Funk, & Marshall Jefferson on the decks at one point, but now the management only want dave kelly & steve furnell. What the fuck is wrong with people? There's no need. All places in consett aren't this bad. Trades is giving it a bad name!
If its making them ££ then they see no problem ! Only the people with a clue spot the mistakes and fuck ups - like yourself who can see that help is needed ! As long as there pockets are getting lined then they aint fussy - look at clubs like ikon / legends / the boat - they rarely get a "big name dj" as such but they dont seem to struggle ! And its the good clubs that get the downside of clubland - its a shame but its life and the way it goes !
AK.Leisure are the problem, its happened with all of their places man! Bizness, Branngians(used to be good!), 70's and so on .The only ok places now are the meridian, union and i suppose chaplains at a stretch. Thats why people like me stay in places like the Demi if im stuck in consett on a night out.
Re: The mark of a quality "Club" Dont need any clout just ££, Galaxy will come to any club if you pay them
if that was the case why didnt promise work when they had leesser heard of DJs like parks & wilson etc?
I can remember Tom Wainwright playing... One of the best DJs I've heard at that place, with semi-regular slots at shindig - and quite a few people turned up to hear him. And as juski will tell you, the charvs were out in force that night. One even went up to Tom and asked him for 6th Gate - Dance With The Devil (Awful Song!) Tom just went: "huh? whats' that?" lol
It's such a shame though. I can remember the hype surrounding trades before it was opened. I was one of the original staff shown round the place the night before... and it looked nice. The toilets were well done out, the place was clean, very nice, even if you didn't agree with the colour scheme. This did not last long however (by the end of the first four weeks it was a tip). Thats what's most annoying. I play a small place in newcastle once or twice a month, and the place is pristine (probably because it's so small). No nasty smell. No stains on the walls. And no dodgy music (thats prolly because of me ) It was meant to be the next big thing - with big name dj's on a regular basis bla bla bla... Me and my mate were going to do thursdays (and did so on occasion). But it was never going to happen if you take into account the fact that the owner spends 3 nights a week in baja The final straw is the comparison in price - I paid for a taxi back from promise for webba and myself, and had a night out there, and it was CHEAPER than a night out in consett! FFS!
I can also remember the bizness. It was small, dinjy, filled with smoke, with sticky carpets, but it was waay better than club aids. For one there was no flip-n-fill played then!
Here's a scene you may remember between me and another glass collector in trades: Akeem: Phil come have a look at this Me: What is it? Akeem: It's fucking disgusting, martin's just thrown up looking at it? Me: Eh? Akeem: In the lasses loos. Me: What? What is it? Akeem: It looks like someone's given birth and smeared it on the wall of the cubicle Me: Rushes to mens to throw up ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :spangled: :spangled: :spangled:
