    Garlands news flash

got this forwarded to me, thought u lot might find it interesting.

    CLUBBERS COLLAPSE FROM DRUG OVERDOSE

THE boss of a Liverpool nightclub last night said he would never
hold another "Ibiza Reunion" night after six people were carried
unconscious to hospital on Sunday morning with suspected drug
overdoses.Toxicology tests are under way to find out what the six,
who were visiting from Ireland, had taken.Early indications are
that it was a derivative of the date rape drug GHB
(gammahydroxybutrate) or Ecstasy. Two girls, both aged 19, collapsed
at the club at around midnight. A short time later, four other
people, two woman aged 19 and 20, and two men, aged 20 and 21, also
became ill.Other club-goers at Garlands on Dale Street were warned
about what had happened. They were all taken to the Royal Liverpool
Hospital where two discharged themselves before a diagnosis could
be made and two more discharged themselves after receiving
treatment. Two of the girls were placed in the intensive care unit
where their condition was described as very serious. But yesterday
morning, they both recovered enough to discharge themselves.A
spokesman for the Royal Liverpool Hospital said: "When they arrived
here, they were in a very serious condition."It was obvious they
had taken some sort of drug which caused them to enter a comatose
state."We are awaiting toxicology reports to establish what it is
they have taken."Police suspect they all suffered a drugs overdose
but have not ruled out they may have had their drinks spiked.A
police spokesman said: "Six people were taken from the Garlands
nightclub with what is believed to be a drug overdose."We are
making a full inquiry and officers made a full search of the club
as well as taking statements from key witnesses."We have also
seized CCTV footage and plan to interview the six people as soon as
their condition allows."The co-owner of Garlands nightclub last
night praised the prompt action of his staff which he believes may
well have prevented a loss of life.
John Cummings, 43, said: "We were having an Ibiza reunion with a
1,200 capacity crowd. During the summer, we had a 12-week season at
the Eden club over there doing one night a week.
"We had staff from Ibiza and lots of people from all round the
country come to Garlands last night, many who knew each other.
"I was in the club all night and the drug seemed to take effect
between 12-2am. They would just feel slightly ill and then
    collapse.
"We had two trained medics on duty and five door attendants. Within
a minute of anyone collapsing, they were seen by a highly-trained
medic who very quickly took the decision to call for an ambulance.
"We have a clear anti-drugs policy but it is difficult to detect
this GHB even though we do bag and purse searches because it is
clear and odourless. We think they may have drunk it before they
    came into the club.
"I think our staff may have saved lives by their quick actions in
    getting these people an ambulance.
"But I will never hold another Ibiza Reunion party again."
GHB, also known as liquid Ecstasy, was banned in the UK in July and
dealers now face a five-year jail penalty with up to two years for
    possession.
Used by clubbers as an alternative to Ecstasy, it is also a common
date rape drug and has been linked to 70pc of drug-related sexual
    assaults.
Until it was outlawed, the drug was readily available in sex shops
and on the body building circuit, where it is used as a growth
    stimulant.
Chemistry graduate Ian Hignett, 27, of Durley Drive, Prenton,
Wirral, died in 1998 after taking a £5 dose of the drug.
Mr Hignett, a laboratory technician for Unilever, took a 25ml dose
of GHB while drinking before a night out.
Police are asking anyone with information to call St Anne Street

The majority of people I have met working in Ibiza have been total fannies. I hate the workers and there attitudes.

The whole false, "cool" and I'm so loud but funny druggy image is fucking cringible.

I would have rather been at Ibrox wearing a green dress and a fuck Bobby Sands t-shirt than at Garlands for that night.

I should have said 'in my experience' ;)

I hate the one's hanging about at cafe del mar and the beach annoying you about the next large up and how good the pills on the island are.

I nearly floored some prick who was trying to sell me CD's of sets from space when clearly they were ripped off the web and not live at all. The DJ's they were selling Cd's for were'nt even playing.

gotta say if they had of taken geebee theres no way they would have had it outside the club.
it would have fucked them long before they got to the club if that was the case!
i didnt get searched when i went into the club but it seems that they were searchin alot of peeps with bags.

all i can say is roll on the next garlands.
    quality night!;)
