When there's a general election the following year the budget is not as severe. It's next year, post election we'll get slaughtered.

well they havn't touched stamp duty again this year, which means it's bound to be hammered next year.

they're trying to squeeze one more year out of the property boom imo.

if they can squeeze another year out of the property boom, most people will continue to believe the economy is in alot better shape than it actually is.

classic political manipulation and re-election politics.

I'm unsure on the property boom, I think they'll be hard pushed to squeeze another 4 years - prices have peaked down south - newcastle seems to be the only place still on the up... The public pressure on sorting this problem is huge - its one of those problems that isn't going to go away.

they will be lucky to get to the election next year without a severe slump down south really starting to kick in imo.

    or ketamine ;)

New Labour will win the next election - despite foreign policy and massive spin... people tend to vote with their wallets and new labour provide the most stable economy.

    No1 wants another tory recesession...

    Your right.

I own property and rent it out in the West of Scotland which hasn't seen anywhere near the level of rise down here. I refuse to buy anything down here as I know it will not be worth the same value in say five years time.

I think there's a lot of first time buyers not willing to go into debt for such a risk.
